Sunday Gospel: David Sedaris

We were not a hugging people. In terms of emotional comfort it was our belief that no amount of physical contact could match the healing powers of a well made cocktail.

Realistically,

Women with a Past - Perfection

Coming soon:Coffee Sack Pillows/Dog Beds

Coffee sacks make great decorative pillows. We think the larger ones would look really good on a bed. Or they would make perfect dog beds. Each one is unique and has been shipped from some far away country like Ethiopia or Colombia. They are on sale now at Max's Haus. Smaller versions are coming soon.

Max's Haus find of the week: vintage yellow fixture

We are really loving this vintage yellow light fixture. Where would you hang it?

Quote of the day

People are Funny,
They spend money they haven't earned,
to buy things they don't need,
to impress people they don't like.

Underrated Films: Rivers and Tides

Andy Goldsworthy is a land artist. His work is mostly communicated through natural mediums: rock, earth, sticks, leaves, ice, snow, et al. It is consistently and painstakingly of and about nature and its connection to our daily lives. Rivers and Tides explores his work with specific attention paid to one ever-present concept in his work: time. Through flows and gusts, floods and recessions, he highlights that intangible element to which we are so closely bound.

Do yourself a big favor. Check it out.

Summer Movie List: Carrie's Picks

We shall refrain judgment until we view all movies.

Phoenix - 1901 - live Coachella, April 18, 2010

We have missed Phoenix on more than one occasion, (three to be exact) and after seeing this video, I am pining to see them live.
Enjoy,

Summer Movie List: Victor's Picks

During our weekly power lunch, myself, Taylor and Carrie decided that we would all create a summer movie list. The breakdown, 4 movies per person, watch one per week, and we should finish by the end of August. I found it pretty tough to pick only four movies but I think these films are timeless and will keep everyone in stitches. If you haven't seen any of these movies, I highly suggest you do yourself a favor and check out all four.
You won't be disappointed.

Underrated Films: The 'Burbs

"He's a man of peace in a savage land...suburbia."

With this tag line we begin a short series of underrated films throughout recent history.

Tom Hanks stars in this classic satire of suburban life among neighbors confronted with a new family to the cul de sac who don't quite fit in. Perfect supporting roles by Carrie Fisher, Bruce Dern, and Corey Feldman make this a classic filled with both laughter and suspense.

Do yourself a favor--check it out.

Cinco de Mayo

Though many people in the U.S. regard this date as a celebration of Mexico’s independence, in truth, Cinco de Mayo marks the Battle of Puebla and the Mexican army’s defeat of the French army attempting to conquer its weakened government. The victory was short-lived, as the French took over the country a year later and remained in power for the next three years.

While Cinco de Mayo has limited significance nationwide in Mexico, the date is observed in the US and other locations around the world as a celebration of Mexican heritage and pride. As noted before,Cinco de Mayo is not Mexico’s Independence Day. That actually occurs on September 15 and is the most important national patriotic holiday in Mexico.

Every year we prefer to celebrate Mexico’s history on our terms, whether that history is accurate or only convenient. But then again, isn’t the United States’ relationship with Mexico all about convenience?

Happy Cinco de Mayo

Cinco de Mayo: Spurs vs Los Suns

Today is Cinco de Mayo and in my next post I'll share the true meaning behind our celebration of this holiday.
This evening however, there's another battle in the works.
The Spurs play the Los Suns tonight and the irony of these two teams playing each other is priceless. Needless to say (as a die hard Rockets fan) I'm hoping the home team gets the win tonight as Phoenix really can't stand to take any more bad news. As you can see these two teams have met before in the playoffs and its intense. We'll be in San Antonio this evening watching the game over a nice margarita with my parents who are in town for the weekend. Here's to a great game and safe cinco de mayo.

I wander what cinco de mayo looks like at the Longoria - Parker maison/casa?

Be Optimistic: Land Rover Defender 110

East Coast Rovers are a true find as their only limitation is your imagination. The guys at ECR will restore and service your Defender. In the late 90's the U.S. deemed importing a defender illegal due to a passenger side airbag. Finding a defender 90 or 110 can prove to be difficult for a perfectionist. Fortunately, ECR has you covered as this defender 110 has been a source of frustration as its pretty perfect.
Be optimistic.

Music Monday, Volume Two

Sometimes life is messy. And painful.
No one says it better than Patty Griffin...and so I leave you tonight with only her words, from her song "Rain".

Until next week,
Taylor

It's hard to listen to a hard hard heart
Beating close to mine
Pounding up against the stone and steel
Walls that I won't climb
Sometimes a hurt is so deep deep deep
You think that you're gonna drown
Sometimes all I can do is weep weep weep
With all this rain falling down

Strange how hard it rains now
Rows and rows of big dark clouds
But I'm holding on underneath this shroud
Rain

It's hard to know when to give up the fight
Some things you want will just never be right
It's never rained like it has to night before
Now I don't wanna beg you baby
For something maybe you could never give
I'm not looking for the rest of your life
I just want another chance to live

Strange how hard it rains now
Rows and rows of big dark clouds
But I'm holding on underneath this shroud
Rain
